Chapter 16 in Leading Organizational Development and Change, 2020, pp 343-371 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter, change interventions that focus on an organization linking with other organizations to achieve their objectives are discussed. This type of change intervention is referred to as trans-organizational change. Organizations engage in relationships to perform tasks and pursue complex opportunities that are too difficult to achieve on their own. Therefore, they engage in relationships with other organizations to advance their goals and realize synergies. Three types of trans-organizational change interventions are discussed: mergers and acquisition interventions, strategic alliance interventions (collaborations), and network interventions. Further, an assessment of the challenges that emerge in the trans-organizational change process and an evaluation of the key aspects of its implementation within the organizational context are also presented.
