Chapter 5 in Leading Organizational Development and Change, 2020, pp 123-141 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract In this chapter, the role of the OD (organizational development) practitioner in organizational development and change (ODC) is explored in detail. The OD practitioner plays a driving role in the planning, conceptualization, implementation, management, evaluation, and institutionalization of planned change within and across organizational systems. Therefore, understanding the different types of OD practitioners and their competencies and assessing their role in ODC become important. This chapter delves into the debate on the choice of internal versus external OD practitioners; it explores their key roles in the field and practice of OD and also assesses the OD competencies required in this area. Finally, the importance of professional ethics and values in the execution of the role of the OD practitioner are also discussed in this chapter.
