Chapter 1 in The Palgrave Handbook of Disability at Work, 2020, pp 1-21 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This introductory chapter sets out the scope and structure of the handbook and its focus on the individual experiences of people with disabilities in the workplace, rather than on organizational contexts. The introduction considers employment rates, examines various definitions of the complex concept of disability (both by global organizations and in legislation), terminology, the historical context of disability and employment and the three main models of disability referred to throughout the handbook (medical, social and social-relational).
