Abstract:
Abstract This chapter examines the case of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in the context of research on breaking barriers to organizational inclusion for persons with disabilities. The goal of this chapter is to help bridge existing research and real-world practices to offer insights into best practices for leaders seeking to tap talent from underutilized groups. NTID is the first and largest technological college in the world for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. We outline what we refer to as NTID’s three pillars for bolstering employment success: employment readiness (i.e., skill building initiatives), employability showcasing (i.e., sensitizing stakeholders to this talent base), and post-employment support (i.e., for accessibility, inclusion, and sustained performance).
