Chapter Chapter 1 in Idiosyncratic Deals at Work, 2022, pp 1-20 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract In a context where protean careers become more the norm than the exception, requesting and obtaining development i-deals represent an interesting tactic that individuals can use to shape their careers. This chapter builds bridges between the literatures on careers and i-deals to identify a set of considerations about why employees request and obtain a development i-deal, and then react to the development i-deal negotiation process. By so doing, it also integrates knowledge about career inaction in order to explore the reasons why individuals may not request or obtain an i-deal. The different mechanisms highlighted in the chapter open the door to new research questions about development i-deals requesting as a career-shaping tactic.
