Chapter Chapter 9 in Generosity and Gender, 2022, pp 121-132 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract When philanthropy professionals think about asking a donor for a contribution or gift, it is easy to get caught up in the process, preparation, and anxiety of the interaction. This chapter discusses the parts of a well-prepared plan. But it’s even more important to remember that “an ask” is about creating a joyful and memorable experience, generating happiness and ideally connecting the donor to something self-fulfilling, meaningful, and purposeful. In this chapter we consider the ways that making an ask of a woman donor has three primary goals: to create a memorable experience for the donor, one in which she feels supremely happy about her contribution in the short and long term; to match her gift with her life’s purpose; and to obtain a contribution that aligns with her passion and purpose while helping advance your cause.
