Chapter 20 in The Palgrave Handbook of Servant Leadership, 2023, pp 463-487 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter explores the definition of leadership from a broad perspective and the turning point of leadership, as it is currently known, in order to understand the various leadership styles women exhibit. In addition, the chapter seeks to further observe whether women in business are servant leaders, or may have qualities of being a servant leader. From the examination of the various leadership styles exhibited by individuals, women in business tend to have qualities that are not agentic in nature and are overlooked by those who deem leadership as masculine, rather than feminine. Nevertheless, women in business, whether they work in the corporate world or are small business owners, desire to be a part of society, and as such, contribute much of their time to finding solutions while working and leading their organization or communities. Women leaders generally face challenges and barriers that are unseen by men, which furthers their ability to lead with transformational service. However, women in business are successful leaders whether they exhibit the servant leadership style or another similar communal style of leadership.
