Chapter Chapter 22 in Humanizing the Digital Workspace, 2025, pp 545-563 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract In this chapter, we examine the role of technological skills for e-leadership in the context of today’s globalised world, highlighting the need for leaders to adapt to digital advancements, particularly in international settings. Our investigation integrates thoughts on technological skills and international management and leadership to enhance our understanding of the challenges involved in managing a globally dispersed workforce through technical means. We suggest that technological skills include elements such as data analysis and virtual interaction while leading internationally concerns both task-oriented and relationship-oriented practices. The integration of those concepts produces insights into how technological adaptations influence the management of a multicultural and globally dispersed labour force. In this regard, we describe four types of international e-leadership that we term (1) data-driven boundary-spanning task management, (2) international virtual group coordination, (3) culturally informed people analytics and (4) intercultural digital interaction. Finally, the chapter provides practical guidelines for e-leaders operating in an increasingly interconnected and digitalised international environment.
