Abstract:
Abstract The general endorsement of internality is revisited in light of the new status quo of fast-paced change, remote and virtual working environments post-COVID-19 pandemic, and further anticipated changes from the fourth revolution of the industrial era to the future of professions from the emergence of artificial intelligence. The suitability of internality in the new paradigm is challenged by examining nuances within contexts that introduce variables that can alter the optimal suitability of internality, a foundational critique of the polarized use of the internal-external scale, cultural biases, and proven shortcomings of an unhealthy internal locus of control. Resilience in a world in flux demands a natural, trait-based tendency toward adaptability. This includes flexibility around one’s perspective of control. Some vital elements of locus of control development are explained that can be leveraged for removing stumbling blocks and some proven enablers are shared for expanding one’s control perspective to become more situation-responsive.
