Chapter Chapter 24 in The Palgrave Handbook of Change and Resilience at Work, 2025, pp 503-518 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter explores the resilience and well-being of female microbusiness owners during multiple community crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, through a socio-ecological lens. Utilizing in-depth interviews with nine female entrepreneurs and a non-profit director, the study highlights the crucial role of social support systems, such as family, friends, and community organizations, in fostering entrepreneurial resilience. The socio-ecological model categorizes these support systems into four levels: society and policy, communities and organizations, close relationships, and individuals. The findings demonstrate that resilience, coping strategies, and support networks are pivotal for sustaining well-being and business continuity amidst adversity. The study contributes to understanding how microbusiness owners navigate complex social environments and offers practical strategies for enhancing entrepreneurial well-being.
