Abstract: Abstract This chapter explores the factors influencing employee thriving in the workplace during disruptive events like the COVID-19 pandemic. Thriving, characterized by simultaneous experiences of vitality and learning, is examined via the lens of work and nonwork contexts. We present empirical evidence comparing levels of thriving among employees at the time of the pandemic and subsequently. The findings show that a small number of remote workers reported thriving during the pandemic. However, in the post-pandemic period, a bigger share of employees experienced thriving. This highlights the pandemic’s significant impact on thriving. Differences in thriving among office, remote, and hybrid work models are analyzed, pointing to the importance of balancing personal and professional resources. A conceptual model is proposed to explain how employees and organizations can foster a thriving, sustainable workforce in an ever-changing work environment. Practical implications concerning the promotion of employee well-being and resilience are provided for leaders and organizations.
