Chapter Chapter 3 in The Palgrave Handbook of Change and Resilience at Work, 2025, pp 43-61 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Since uncovering the significance of employee well-being at work for organizational management, frameworks of well-being have aimed at sythesizing the findings to tap into the potential benefits of well-being at work. A broader framework now includes physical, psychological, and social well-being work. The chapter explains significant elements of the framework and shares organizational initiatives that have shaped a changing working environment post the Industrial Revolution. The chapter then focuses on some major post-COVID-19 pandemic changes shaping the new world of work, such as working remotely, an increased pace of change, the gig economy, artificial intelligence, and economic downturns that increased inequality, addressing how the new status quo is influencing well-being at work. Similar to dispersed power and leadership, the responsibility for employee well-being is also shifting from organizations to employees, making well-being and happiness an increasingly vital part of life skills to be learned by all. Some suggestions for self-initiatives for work-related well-being are shared.
