Abstract: Abstract The latest pandemic affected all areas of daily life, among which workplaces and organizations. Beyond state policies intended to safeguard the common good of public health, organizations adopted initiatives that significantly influenced work experience. Work-life boundaries became more permeable, technical work demands increased, psychological, and emotional tensions were intensified, thus having an impact on gender roles, work-life balance, and employee well-being. Organizations introduced remote work strategies and related hybrid work arrangements, while state policy measures shaped labor market dynamics. The aim of this chapter is to discuss and review this fundamental transformation of the structure of work, drawing on the extant literature. We argue that positive leadership styles in alignment with workplace spirituality are critical to address the needs of employees in unprecedented times, along with an emphasis on meaningful work, access to valuable resources, and psychological empowerment. Adapting to these societal challenges remains an important goal for organizations in their effort to create policies that effectively harmonize organizational with societal goals, thus generating social capital that can be applied to future crises.
