A chapter in Handbuch Strategisches Management, 2005, pp 495-510 from Springer

Abstract: Zusammenfassung In a time of high uncertainty for all technology manufacturers and service providers, Dell continues to buck the trend. While most of its competitors in the PC and server industry are consolidating and regrouping, Dell’s year-on-year growth remains strong. In terms of units shipped, Dell continues to record strong growth in most of its product lines including desktops, notebooks, and servers. Of these, the worldwide server business shows the strongest unit growth demonstrating Dell’s strength in this highly competitive hardware sector. As proof of Dell’s ability to continue growing, results announced in May 2003 showed that net earnings for the financial year were €1.7 billion, an increase of 19 per cent on 2002, while revenue of €30 billion was up 14 per cent.
