Abstract: Abstract This paper presents a finite element based approach to model typical GFRP fatigue damage evolution process which is vital to understand the structure endurance. A progressive finite element method was used to simulate the fatigue process in FRP laminates. During the fatigue loads cycles, the damage accumulated near the stress concentration zone leads to the local decrease of stiffness and strength, which in turn leads to stress redistribution. The generalized material property degradation technique was used to reflect the evolvement of residual stiffness and strength as functions of state of stress and number of cycles. Interface elements were used to character the local and whole interface delamination. The fatigue lifetime of FRP laminates with different sizes of notch hole were predicted. The developed method was validated by comparing the simulation with available data.
