Abstract:
Abstract As tools of studying the mechanical characteristics of coarse granular materials, indoor and in-situ tests all have weakness. Numerical simulation test is an effective supplement to them . This paper studies the random generating algorithm of the two-dimensional test model of coarse granular materials, in terms of which loosely-distributed particles are generated according to the gradation curve. Then, the accumulation of the particles in a test tube under the force of gravity is simulated by adopting Discontinuous Deformation Analysis (DDA), to form a stable structured system of the particles which contact each other. Compared with the triaxial test of coarse granular materials, the two dimensional numerical simulation on mechanical characteristics is performed by DDA. The tendency of the stress-strain curve by simulation is in concord with that by triaxial test.
