Chapter Chapter 6 in A Systems Approach to Leadership, 2009, pp 63-73 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract A set of general and specific systems models and methods which underpin SAL are presented in this chapter. The chapter first explores how organisation occurs in the natural world and that systems methods and principles attempt to represent this overall order. The diversity of the systems field is outlined before a brief discussion of Systems Dynamics and how it enables an appreciation of the dynamics of system interaction over time. A brief overview of soft systems methods is the presented. General Systems Theory is then explained in some detail followed by a range of systems principles relevant to SAL. An outline of how Complexity and Chaos Theory are relevant to system instability, collapse and renewal are presented to close the chapter.
