Chapter Chapter 9 in A Systems Approach to Leadership, 2009, pp 95-110 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter presents Emergent Goal Achievement (EGA) as a method of achieving goals quickly and effectively a in complex uncertain environment. EGA is fundamental to a Systems Approach to Leadership and to working effectively in any naturalistic situation. The reader is introduced to the method by considering how early pioneers and explorers worked at the margin of what was known, and unknown, to progressively reveal new frontiers. From this example a general method is developed. Nine pointers for maximising the effectiveness of the method are then described. A comparison of traditional (deterministic) goal achievement and EGA highlight the fundamental differences between the two approaches. An application of the method to strategic planning is briefly described to close the chapter.
