Chapter Chapter 25 in Strategies and Communications for Innovations, 2011, pp 379-395 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This book chapter presents a case study on the “ParcelRobot”, which was a successful open innovation project in logistics industry. It focussed on a patent strategy and communication tools for the developed high-tech innovation. After introducing the open innovation process with a dialog perspective, sequential steps for the technology development are briefly described. Subsequently, a lead user-oriented perspective on the patent and licensing strategy is provided under consideration of the complex structures in the open innovation network. Several communication tools relating to four communication channels and the initial impacts of the communication activities for the high-tech innovation are presented. Results were supported by a German survey that was conducted at market launch. The market penetration activities outline the future development of the robot system. Finally, this book chapter concludes with key leanings from the open innovation project regarding the patent strategy and communication of high-tech innovations.
