Abstract: Zusammenfassung Road haulage is the most important means of transport in the freight business. Besides the extensively discussed adverse side effects of dangerous emissions and accidents, heavy trucks are also responsible for a significant amount of damages to the road infrastructure. Often, overloading or load poorly balanced over the axles is the primary cause of these destructions. This article addresses the incorporation of the VDI directive 2700/Part 4 into fleet deployment decisions. This directive imposes four additional axle weight constraints. Their incorporation into vehicle routing contributes to the avoidance of overload situations for the deployed vehicles. The here-reported research’s main contribution comprises the proposal and evaluation of a generic formulation of the VDI directive in terms of a mathematical program.
