Abstract Not only the individual foods and their combination have changed in many countries, but also the way in which meals are eaten—for example in the family, with colleagues or alone—the location of meals and their socio-cultural or even ritual significance. Increasingly globalized quality standards go hand in hand with a growing differentiation of nutrition and eating habits.
