Abstract:
Abstract The Covid 19 pandemic not only changed social and economic life worldwide, but also led to increased media consumption. For the period of the first lockdown in Germany and Austria, however, it was unclear for which purposes different types of media were used. This study focuses on the media usage behavior of young people during the first exit restrictions in 2020. The survey shows that especially television was very popular as a media channel among younger viewers. The motive of obtaining information was in the foreground when it came to use. Social media channels, on the other hand, were used primarily for dialog with friends and relatives, in addition to obtaining information.
