A chapter in The Future of Work, 2024, pp 127-134 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The concept of trust-based vacation can be a decisive factor in times of (further) development of modern work forms and the recruitment of valuable specialists. For example, the so-called “unlimited PTO (paid time off)” is widespread in the USA. In Germany, this compensation component is still used cautiously—therefore, the construct is primarily found in the start-up or tech scene. However, the idea of trust-based vacation should not be underestimated in the design of “New Pay” processes. Because a significant aspect for employees will be in the future: time is money.
