Abstract:
Abstract While not too long ago workplace design was discussed among experts in building and facility management, today these projects are mostly the responsibility of human resources and organizational development. The reason for this is the realization that workplace design is a crucial element in New Work (see Allmers, S. et al. (2022), On the Way to New Work, Munich 2022, Hackl, B. et al. (2017), New Work: On the Way to the New World of Work, Wiesbaden 2017, p. 122 ff., Zukunftsinstitut (2021), Megatrend New Work, https://www.zukunftsinstitut.de/dossier/megatrend-new-work/ (accessed on 25.09.2022)). This is because spaces have the power to promote or prevent what we so urgently need for the future viability of companies: agility and innovation as well as resilience and a meaningful connection between private and professional life. One concept that is particularly conducive to these success factors is Activity Based Working (ABW). It includes various aspects that, when combined with the right organization and leadership, can become the driving force behind the company’s future viability and success.
