The Artificial Intelligence in a Nutshell
Manuel Beck ()
Chapter Chapter 2 in Artificial Intelligence in Sales, 2025, pp 15-43 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter introduces the fundamental concepts of Artificial Intelligence in the sales sector. A particular focus is on the question of whether and to what extent AI could pose a threat to sales jobs. It highlights the potential risks and challenges associated with the use of AI, especially in terms of possible task automation and the associated concern about job loss. At the same time, the opportunities that AI offers are highlighted, such as the automation of repetitive tasks, the generation of new business opportunities, improved customer understanding, the promotion of sales staff competencies, and more accurate sales forecasts. The chapter also provides an overview of the different types and methods of AI, including data integration and analysis, machine learning, neural networks, deep learning, natural language processing (NLP), and generative models. Finally, further application-related methods are presented that illustrate the potential of AI in sales and show how it can contribute to process optimization and support sales staff.
