Scenario 3: Establishing a Subsidiary and Its Location: Dubai or Riyadh?

Paul Ammann () and Gerald Drißner ()

Chapter Chapter 4 in Business Success in the Gulf Region, 2026, pp 253-324 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Scenario 3: Meier AG has established a strong reputation in the Arab countries. Particularly in the Arab Gulf states, it is still possible to achieve relatively high profits. These lucrative markets are managed from the United Arab Emirates. For this purpose, Meier AG founded a subsidiary in Dubai five years ago. However, there is now political pressure from Saudi Arabia to relocate the regional headquarters to Riyadh. Those who do not comply are to be excluded from future contract awards. The annual review meeting with the board is coming up soon, during which the question of location will be discussed. What should Stefan Müller recommend to management?
