Abstract: Abstract This chapter identifies a non-profit organisation’s strategic approach to attracting and maintaining front-line service volunteers at an Australian disability service provider. It explores issues associated with attracting, maintaining, and developing volunteer resources in these categories. By doing so, it supports a range of strategies and practices in maximising volunteer outcomes for non-profit organisations operating a disability service in Australia. As traditionally values-based organisations, many non-profits seek to differentiate their positioning in this market from private and for-profit providers, and, in doing so, must consider the commercial realities they face. The strategic use of volunteers may aid in better design of program and service delivery options and fill talent gaps amongst stretched and often competing human resources in a sector that not only competes with other non-profit disability service providers, but also with commercial counterparts. Supporting our approach, we present suggested framework parameters for augmenting employee outcomes through focused volunteerism in this sector.
