Chapter Chapter 6 in Immersive Technology and Experiences, 2024, pp 85-96 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This article explores the intersection of communication, mass media, and education, with a particular focus on the transformative possibilities presented by immersive technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). Throughout history, the mass media has played a crucial role as a communication medium, facilitating the democratization of knowledge and promoting global comprehension. Nevertheless, the introduction of immersive technology has resulted in a significant transformation of the communication landscape within the field of education. This chapter examines the various benefits of integrating technology in education, such as increased student involvement, personalized learning opportunities, and the elimination of geographical limitations. Furthermore, this chapter provides a critical analysis of the obstacles that arise, including issues related to technology accessibility and health considerations. This article examines the integration of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) in the context of case studies such as the BBC's VR initiatives and the use of AR in journalism. By analyzing these pioneering examples, the research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the practical applications and potential future developments of this integration. The research highlights the potential of integrating communication, mass media, and immersive technology in the education system, offering a learning experience that is not just interactive but also profoundly experiential.
