Chapter 7 in Offshore Risk Assessment Vol. 1, 2020, pp 249-287 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Hydrocarbon leaks and subsequent fireFire and/or explosionExplosion are one of the main threats to offshore exploration and production/processing of hydrocarbon oil and gas. The chapter gives an overview of different fire types that may occur on offshore installations, as well as a brief introduction to the main characteristics of the main types of fire. Some simplistic calculation rules are also given. Consequences of fire are discussed, as well as response to fire loads and risk reducing measures. Dimensioning of structural fire protection is also covered, including reference to the USFOS® software.
