Chapter 2 in Reliability and Risk Issues in Large Scale Safety-critical Digital Control Systems, 2009, pp 25-46 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The application of large-scale digital or computer systems involves many components, elements, and modules. System reliability and safety need to be calculated no matter how complicated is the structure. Estimation of system reliability/safety provides useful information for system design and verification. Risk allocation to the designed system in a balanced manner is an application example.
