A chapter in Intelligent Quality Assessment of Railway Switches and Crossings, 2021, pp 81-91 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Worn crossing noses extracted from the track were studied through extensive metallographic examinations, including optical microscopy and X-ray tomography used for three-dimensional mapping of fatigue crack networks within the S&C nose. The gradient in the residual strain/stress profile from the running surface originating from the rail wheel contact was analyzed using synchrotron as well as laboratory X-ray diffraction.
