A chapter in Data-Driven Methods for Reliability and Safety Engineering: Applications in Industrial Systems, 2026, pp 1-16 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Grooved joints are commonly utilized as tensile joints in aircraft structures. While fulfilling the stiffness and strength requirements, the reliability assessment of these grooved tensile joints is critical and should not be overlooked. Response surface methodology (RSM), a statistical approach for experimental design and analysis, is employed to establish mathematical models that relate input and output variables. The optimization of grooved joint connection structures is analyzed using RSM, with the Box-Behnken matrix design method applied for the experimental setup. Response surfaces and second-order regression equations are derived through fitting based on the generated design points. Additionally, response surface functions are formulated using the least squares regression method. From a reliability standpoint, limit state equations are developed, and the reliability, along with the sensitivity of relevant random influence parameters, is calculated. The findings of this study offer valuable insights for subsequent dimensional optimization design.
