Chapter Chapter 17 in Introduction to Quality and Reliability Engineering, 2015, pp 303-326 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Maintenance includes corrective maintenance (CM) and preventive maintenance (PM). For CM, two options to restore the system to its operational state are repair or replacement. For PM, various strategies can be used, including time-based strategies and condition-based strategies at both component level and system level. An overall system-level maintenance concept can be developed through integrating all the PM strategies of the system and its components using group maintenance principle. The development of maintenance concept needs a system approach. In this chapter, we focus on typical maintenance policies and their optimization models. Typical maintenance management methodologies (i.e., RCM and TPM) are also briefly discussed.
