Toward Bridging the Knowledge Management Gap in Assessment Literacy: Artificial Intelligence as a Catalyst for Change

Abstract: This chapter explores the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and assessment literacy (AL) in education, viewed through a knowledge management (KM) lens. Using the Teacher Assessment Literacy in Practice (TALiP) framework, we examine how AI can address extrinsic and intrinsic challenges in developing and maintaining AL. We discuss various AI types, including artificial narrow intelligence, Theory-of-Mind AI, memory AI, and machine learning, and explore their potential applications in educational assessment. Our research identifies key AL issues and proposes AI-driven solutions, offering recommendations for leveraging specific AI technologies to improve assessment practices. While acknowledging AI limitations, we provide a comprehensive framework for understanding AL issues and AI capabilities, contributing a roadmap for strategically adopting AI solutions to enhance assessment practices and knowledge flow in education. This chapter aims to guide educators and institutions in effectively integrating AI into their assessment practices, ultimately improving the quality of educational evaluation.
