Chapter 5 in Reengineering in Action:The Quest for World-Class Excellence, 1999, pp 77-94 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Abstract:
AbstractAs traditional management techniques were no longer appropriate in the changing business environment, companies employed Business Process Reengineering (BPR) to achieve elevated business performance. Similarly, as traditional systems development approaches delivered disappointing results, system developers experimented with other models, including Evolutionary Delivery and Evolutionary Development, in order to enable successful technology exploitation by businesses. Both these business and systems initiatives embrace elements of cultural change, management flexibility, empowerment, organizational readiness, and technology introduction in a changing environment. We show how the management of a BPR project allows us to integrate Evolutionary Delivery and Evolutionary Development into the organizational transformation project. And by these means, we show how BPR can enable Systems Engineering.
