Chapter 22 in Reengineering in Action:The Quest for World-Class Excellence, 1999, pp 393-406 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.

Abstract: AbstractBusiness Process Reengineering (BPR) generally implies the redesigning of business processes and the way a business works, in order to achieve substantial improvements and financial benefits. With the introduction of modern integrated software packages, such as SAP R/3, best business practices are already incorporated into the package. BPR tools are provided both within SAP R/3 and other third party products, to assist companies in reengineering their business processes. In developing countries, reengineering business processes is generally perceived as a threat, the result being the elimination of unnecessary positions and the reduction in the staff complement. This paper describes a BPR project within a textile manufacturing company in a developing country; the use of BPR tools and an integrated software package; the experienced gained and the successful implementation of the project.
