Abstract: AbstractThis study evaluates the effect of the Olympic Games on the tourism industry of the host country. To accomplish this objective three Olympic Games are analyzed: Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004. The analysis involves four main areas which refer to i) inbound tourism in pre, during and post games, ii) evaluation of the tourism infrastructure iii) the development of new tourism services v) the implementation of new marketing promotion strategies. The results show that elaborate organizing, long-term planning and effective promotional strategies of the Olympic Games have positive influence on the tourism sector of the host country.
