Evaluation of Knowledge Processes Within the Learning Organization

Abstract: The purpose of this chapter is to present a synthesis of our research on learning organizations performed in the North-Eastern region of Romania. We go beyond the metaphor of knowledge as an object or flow, considering knowledge as a field. That means that in each organization we may consider a field of cognitive knowledge, a field of emotional knowledge, and a field of spiritual knowledge. These three fields are dynamic and in a continuous interaction. Based on these fields of knowledge we conceived a questionnaire to identify and evaluate the main factors able to influence the organizational learning and to transform a company into a learning organization. We distributed our questionnaires to companies based in the North-Eastern zone of Romania, and then processed the answers using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) package. We performed a factorial analysis and found that the main factors to influence organizational learning are the following: vision and mission, knowledge transfer, and knowledge creation. Also, the leadership plays an important role as an integrator and fundamental factor in transforming a company into a learning organization.
