The Economic Benefits of Liminal Spaces in CSR: A Case Study Approach
Ivan Ocampo
Chapter 5 in Socially Responsible Business Models for International Brands, 2026, pp 73-100 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Abstract:
This chapter explores the integration of liminal spaces within Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategies and their economic benefits for international brands. Liminal spaces, or transitional zones, support employees’ psychological, physical and temporal needs, leading to enhanced productivity, reduced turnover and increased innovation. By examining case studies, this chapter highlights how implementing these spaces contributes to employee well-being and organisational success. Notably, the introduction of quiet rooms, flexible working hours and wellness programs by a global retail company led to significant improvements in employee satisfaction, retention and productivity. The findings underscore the importance of incorporating liminal spaces into CSR strategies to achieve sustainable business growth and a positive corporate culture.
