No 279004, 1984 Annual Meeting, August 5-8, Ithaca, New York from American Agricultural Economics Association (New Name 2008: Agricultural and Applied Economics Association)

Abstract: Abundant world rice supply has led to renewed interest in 4mproving quality of modern rice varieties. Implicit prices of ; graia. characteristics show that Philippine consumers prefer fewer broken grains and a soft cooked texture. Substantial consumer surplus gains would result from introduction of varieties with improved cooking quality. Breeding for better quality has an internal rate of return of 23. percent.
