Business Census Data at the Center for Economic Studies

Ron Jarmin

CES Technical Notes Series from Center for Economic Studies, U.S. Census Bureau

Abstract: This short document attempts to bring together what several people have learned about using the micro data files for the Business Censuses (or Non- Manufacturing Economic Censuses). The following items are discussed: i) what files are available, ii) where they are located, iii) the basic structure of the files and iv) some tips for using the files. The documentation contained here is informal and incomplete. The best advice about these data is USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. This document is intended to help people get started using these data. More complete documentation must wait until we have a better understanding of the data.
