Abstract:
This paper analyzes the degree of exchange rate pass-through (ERPT) to consumer prices in Chile based on the methodology developed by Campa and Goldberg (2010). A special emphasis is placed on the role played by distribution margins and imported inputs in the sensitivity of prices to exchange rate. The paper documents distribution margins and imported inputs use across 22 industries. The estimation indicates that ERPT to CPI ranges from 9 percent to 20 percent. The results show that a high percentage of the ERPT arises from the use of imported inputs in the domestic production processes.
