Abstract: We investigate the survival of new seeds in the US hybrid corn seed market between 2002 and 2007. Controlling geographic location, we find that product characteristics and market structure variables have significant impacts on the hazard of corn hybrids. The results also suggest spill-over effects of learning among close substitute seeds, and a spatial pattern of survival: seeds in the center region of the Corn Belt survive longer in the market than those in the fringe region.
