Abstract:
This study uses a specific methodology that incorporates supply and demand side developments (Exports Matrix) to analyze the performance of Egyptian exports in the EU over the period 1986-1996. It is found that the deterioration of the market share of the Egyptian exports in the EU is mainly due to the concentration of the Egyptian exports with high RCA in commodities that suffer from a declining demand in the EU. The analysis of the different external and internal determinants also showed that some of them have a negative effect on the market access of Egyptian exports in the EU. However, such effect may not always be direct.
