Abstract:
This paper investigates the role of the social safety net and labour market events on the decline in family cash welfare that occurred during the period 1994-1996. Drawing on the cross sections of the Russian Longitudinal Monitoring Survey, we find that the decline in living standards amy largely be explained by changes in the labour market.
