Health and Schooling Investments in Africa

T. Schultz ()

Working Papers from Yale - Economic Growth Center

Abstract: Health and education are not only beneficial in themselves, but they can be viewed as investments in human capital which lead to a higher future standard of living. The people of Africa experience lower levels of both health and education than prevail in other regions of the world, which reflects the lower level of economic development in Africa, helps to explain that lower level of development, and suggests a set of policies for improving Africa's standard of living.
