Abstract: In order to investigate how rail freight could develop more, we have decided to limit our study to France and Spain. Using the case study method, we will study how the development of the corridors in their territories can contribute to transforming these two countries into strategic actors for the development of rail freight at the gateways of Europe. Then, in order to understand the factors that determine a rail freight offer and the nature of the existing brakes on the development of freight transport, we will look into two methods: one developed by Kholadad & Baron (2020) and the second one defined by Houanti, L., & Oruezabala, G. (2018). Finally, in an attempt to open up the perspective we will present the FsQCA method which will allow us to discover new parameters to determine levers for the development of rail freight.
