Oxford Studies on the firm and on the industry: from Industrial Economics to Management Studies (1950-1983)

Abstract: This paper seeks to evaluate the evolution of studies on the firm and on the industry in the context of Oxford University (1950-1983). From the birth of Industrial Economics as the result of Philip Andrews' work and introduction of the Journal of Industrial Economics to the emergence of the first degree in Management studies, this paper analyses three different orientations chosen by theorists of the firm and of the organization.
