Abstract: The current transformations of French labour market intermediaries' regulation increase the interest in an accurate analysis of these intermediaries' role and their positioning in the market. The French Ofer survey (Offre d'emploi et recrutement, 2005) on the recruitment practices of firms provides the basis to study the segmentation of job placement services according to firms, job positions and hired employees. Three efficiency measures are examined: i) the ratio between use of a given labour market intermediary and effective recruitments via this intermediary, ii) the hiring procedure duration, and iii) the match quality. A specific question is whether the kind of links built between intermediaries and employers has any effect on these three efficiency measures. The study shows that intermediaries' specialization increases neither the hiring procedure speed nor the match quality. It's rather the usual resort to the same intermediary which increases the match quality, unless the expected service is only job ads diffusion.
