Abstract: Financial markets have witnessed deep structural changes over the past two decades. Sustainable finance has been drawing increased attention from investors (institutional and retail), politicians, and companies. The first chapter of this thesis looks at the impact of socially responsible investors on firms' anti-social behavior. The second chapter investigates what motivates shareholders to push for firms' pro-social actions and evaluates the costs these decisions impose on firms. Simultaneously, regulatory frameworks governing Trading venues in Europe have undergone significant evolution to ensure transparency, fairness, andstability in financial markets. The third part of this thesis evaluates how the limitation of less transparent trading venues has impacted market fragmentation and liquidity.
